Lodz Ballet Festival
Lodz Ballet Festival is a biennial festival with 50 year of tradition, which over the years became the greatest and most prestigious ballet event in Poland. The idea underlying the festival is to promote the art of ballet and the current choreography achievements, both in the field of classical ballet and various trends in contemporary dance. During the Lodz Ballet Festival the Grand Theatre in Warsaw offers a wide range of dance events at the highest artistic level, giving the Polish audience the opportunity to have face-to-face encounters with greatest dancers and choreographers from all over the world.
Choreographers and dancing groups which made Lodz Ballet Festival prestigious and unique include names such as: Maurice Béjart, Alicia Alonso, Jiří Kylian, William Forsythe, Daniel Ezralow, Boris Ejfman, Mats Ek, Birgit Cullberg and many other artists whose works played a pioneering role in development of choreography and ballet in the world. The major dancing groups which visited the Grand Theatre in Łódź include: Maurice Béjart Ballet of the 20th Century, Nederlands Dans Theater, Sadler’s Wells, Royal Ballet, Ballet Rambert, Cullberg Ballet, Batsheva Dance Company, Moscow’s Bolshoi Theater Ballet, St. Petersburg Ejfman Ballet, Ballet Nacional de Cuba, Stuttgarter Ballet, Elisa Monte Dance Company, Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, Akram Khan Company.
